Art Festivals

Plein air, or outdoor painting, festivals have the unique ability to showcase the natural and built assets of a community. We sponsor Adirondack Plein Air Festival, and we are co-founders of  Keeseville Plein Air Festival and the brand new Tupper Lake Plein Air Festival.

We were introduced to Plein Air festivals in 2016 when we became a major sponsor of ArtWorks’ Adirondack Plein Air Festival in Saranac Lake.  We so enjoyed being involved that we asked the organizer, Sandra Hildreth, to coach us through the process of starting a new festival in Keeseville, NY, where our Community Revitalization project is currently focused.

Years later, we continue to support Adirondack Plein Air Festival by sponsoring the Special Preview Party, People’s Choice Award, and Founder’s Award.  Our very own Keeseville Plein Air Festival has sold $35,232 worth of local art since 2017 and continues to be an indispensable summer arts event in the sleepy hamlet.

In 2018, we began working with Tupper Arts to organize and co-host a third Plein Air Festival during the world-renowned Adirondack leaf-peeping season.  We hope that this festival will bring energy and vitality to downtown Tupper Lake and create additional opportunities for artists to sell their work and highlight the incredible beauty of the area.

More information on each of these festivals is available below.  If you are interested in being a Keeseville plein air host, volunteer, or sponsor for Keeseville Plein Air Festival, please email info@adkaction.org. If you would like to get involved in the Adirondack Plein Air Festival in Saranac Lake or Tupper Lake Plein Air Festival, please email info@adkaction.org.

Keeseville Community Arts Festival: July 20-25, 2021

Artwork by Kari Ganoung Ruiz, www.kariganoungruiz.com

AdkAction’s annual Keeseville Plein Air Festival started in 2017 and has helped community members and visitors alike see the place anew, as interpreted by talented artists. In 2021, the event is being moved outdoors and expanding to include performance and participatory art events as well. The festival is now called, “Keeseville Community Arts Festival.”

We are proud to open registration for our COVID-19 safe event which will take place July 20-25th with three days of painting and two days of showing and sales. Plein Air artists are encouraged to register early, as registrations tend to sell out quickly.

Come paint Keeseville’s historic architecture, rolling hills, charming farms, waterfalls, chasms, and lakeshores. You will be able to enjoy food, beer, and wine from local farms, and craft beverage makers, meet other artists, and come to know a charming lakeside community at the foothills of the Adirondack mountains.

After registering, please download an Artist Participation Agreement and schedule here. Signed agreements may be returned by mail to AdkAction, PO Box 64, Keeseville NY 12944, scanned and sent to info@adkaction.org, or brought to registration on the first day of the festival.

Tupper Lake Plein Air Festival: Sept. 22-26, 2021

The 2021 Tupper Lake Plein Air Festival is an outdoor event which shares the beauty and spirit of this historic lumberjack town, amidst the majestic Adirondack Mountains in full fall foliage, with artists from across the northeast region.

Artists will have the opportunity to capture inspiring vistas and landmarks that have long defined this iconic Adirondack town. Some of the many scenic opportunities awaiting artistic interpretation include the winding Raquette River, with the Ox Bow and its many marshes, Bog River Falls at the headwaters of beautiful Tupper Lake, the mountains, lakes, and ponds surrounding the town, and local landmarks like the Beth Joseph Synagogue, the Wild Center, and the Oval Wood Dish factory.

AdkAction and Tupper Arts are the co-sponsors of this event, which will take place September 22nd through September 26th, 2021 with headquarters at 106 Park St., Tupper Lake. Enjoy 3 days of outdoor painting, visit local shops, and take in the beautiful scenery of the region. A complete schedule can be downloaded here.

After registering, please download an Artist Participation Agreement here. Signed agreements can be returned via mail to Tupper Arts, 106 Park St., Tupper Lake, NY 12986, or sent electronically to info@tupperarts.org. You can also bring your signed agreement with you on the first day of the event.
