2022 Tupper Arts Plein Air Festival Schedule

October 5, 2022: Registration: Artists who have registered online can begin painting anytime on Oct. 5th, 2022. Artists will not need to get their canvasses stamped prior to painting. Everyone will be on the honor system to not begin earlier than Oct. 5th, 2022. The Tupper Arts gallery at 106 Park St. will be open at 8am for those registering that same day. Information about locations to paint and maps of the area are available at the gallery. Depending on state and federal mandates related to the pandemic, face masks may be required of anyone entering the building. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available. Social distancing will be practiced to ensure the safety of everyone in the building. Information about the region will be provided to artists who are not familiar with the area.

Oct. 5 – 7:

Paint the Water: Artists have abundant views of Tupper Lake, Raquette Pond, Lake Simond, Bog River Falls, the Raquette River, Little Wolf, Gull Pond, Panther Pond and the wetlands that permeate the perimeters of the waterways through and around the town. The choices are spectacular and rich with colors and textures that are certain to inspire all Plein Air artists.
Paint the Town: Tupper Lake offers a variety of architectural structures, new and old, along with revitalized streets and storefronts that invite artistic interpretation. The gazebo at the municipal park, the Bandshell at Flander’s Park, Beth Joseph Synagogue, the Oval Wood Dish factory buildings, and The Wild Center are all landmarks that add special touches that help define the history and spirit of the town.
Paint the Landscape: Tupper Lake is home to some of the most scenic views in the Adirondacks. From the top of Raymond hill on Route 3 entering Tupper Lake from the west, to the panoramic display of the Seward range behind L P Quinn Elementary School, to the spectacular views of Mt. Morris, home of Big Tupper Ski Area, from several locations along Raquette Pond, artists are rewarded with an array of Adirondack vistas.

Canvasses are encouraged to be turned in to the gallery as they are completed to facilitate the process of hanging the art. The gallery will be open for drop off until 6pm Wednesday, October 5th through Friday, October 7th, and from 8-9am on Saturday, September 25th. We encourage all canvasses to be framed and wired for hanging. No sawtooth hangers, please. Wrapped canvasses will be permitted, with the appropriate wiring for hanging.

Show and Sale: Oct. 8th & 9th , 2022 from 10am – 5pm. Tupper Arts staff and volunteers will be on site to man the show and sale. Judging will be done on Saturday morning. Awards of $500, $250, $125, and $125 will be given for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and “People’s Choice” respectively.

Options for leaving art at the center: Artists are welcome to leave their unsold pieces with Tupper Arts to sell in their gift shop throughout the year, or for however long they want to leave the art at the center. However, the gallery is only open for limited hours during the winter months, due to drop off in visitor numbers.
