The 2019 Tupper Lake Plein Air Festival is an event which shares the beauty and spirit of this historic lumberjack town, amidst the majestic Adirondack Mountains in full fall foliage, with artists from across the United States and Canada. Artists will have the opportunity to capture inspiring vistas and landmarks that have long defined this iconic Adirondack town. Some of the many scenic opportunities awaiting artistic interpretation include the winding Raquette River, with the Ox Bow and its many marshes, Bog River Falls at the headwaters of beautiful Tupper Lake, the mountains, lakes, and ponds surrounding the town, and local landmarks like the Beth Israel Synagogue, the Wild Center, and the Oval Wood Dish factory. Adk Action and Tupper Arts are the co-sponsors of this event, which will take place October 8th through October 13th, 2019, with headquarters at 106 Park St., Tupper Lake. Enjoy a community tour, 3 days of outdoor painting, visits to local attractions (brewery, the Wild Center, lakeside Bandshell), a Wine and Cheese Preview Party, and the Art Show and Sale.

2019 Festival Schedule

(For Artists) October 8: Community Tours: Check in to Festival at the Tupper Arts building at 106 Park St., Tupper Lake anytime between 9am and 6pm. Painting can begin as soon as canvasses are stamped. Community tours to local sites for artists to get inspiration will occur during the afternoon and early evening.

(For Artists) October 9: Paint the Water: Artists have abundant views of Tupper Lake, Raquette Pond, Lake Simond, Bog River Falls, the Raquette River, Little Wolf, Gull Pond, Panther Pond and the wetlands that permeate the perimeters of the waterways through and around the town. The choices are spectacular and rich with colors and textures that are certain to inspire all Plein Air artists.

(For Artists) October 10: Paint the Town: Tupper Lake offers a variety of architectural structures, new and old, along with revitalized streets and storefronts that invite artistic interpretation. The gazebo at the municipal park, the Bandshell at Flander’s Park, Beth Israel Synagogue, the Oval Wood Dish factory buildings are all landmarks that add special touches that help define the history and spirit of the town.

(For Artists) October 11: Paint the Landscape: Tupper Lake is home to some of the most scenic views in the Adirondacks. From the top of Raymond hill on Route 3 entering Tupper Lake from the west to the panoramic display of the Seward range behind LP Quinn Elementary School to the spectacular views of Mt. Morris, home of Big Tupper Ski Area, from several locations along Raquette Pond, artists are rewarded with an array of Adirondack vistas.

Special Preview Party: October 11, 2019, from 6 pm to 9 pm. This event will offer the public a first look and the opportunity to buy any of the artwork created during the festival. Wine and local cheeses will be available during the event. $10.

Show and Sale: October 12, 2019, from 10 am – 6 pm, and Oct. 13 from 10 am – 3 pm. Artwork created during the festival will be available for sale all weekend long at Tupper Arts Center on Park Street. Free and open to the public.  Enjoy viewing the great artwork and maybe even take a piece home for yourself! Cash, check, and credit card accepted.  AdkAction and Tupper Arts staff and volunteers will be on-site to man the show and sale.  Artists are invited to speak with patrons or spend the day painting whatever they chose and enjoying the beautiful community of Tupper Lake.
