Compost for Good requests proposals from manufacturers for North Country composter

The Compost for Good project team has a unique opportunity for manufacturers for a community-scale composter in the North Country. Learn more and access the RFP form below:

Compost for Good (CfG) is administering a grant through the USDA to support new, existing and emerging composting related businesses in St Lawrence, Clinton, Essex and Franklin Counties through technical assistance, case studies, business planning, access to grants, etc. Central to our scope is to pay a manufacturer, preferably located within the above counties, $30K to construct an in-vessel drum composter. The 4’x20′ system is based upon an open-sourced design that has been created by CfG cofounder John Culpepper. Four systems are in operation in the North Country, one in NJ, and several variations have been constructed in other parts of the US and other countries. We believe this system to be an effective and affordable option for processing approximately 50,000 thousand pounds of food scraps per year into high value compost.

It is CfG’s goal to spur a composting revolution in the North Country, thereby creating an increase in demand for composting equipment such as drum composters, trommels, windrow turners, etc. We believe customized equipment to meet this demand can and should be made locally. To find the most qualified individual/business to manufacture the drum composter, we are putting out a request for proposals (RFP) that details a number of qualifications that our advisory group has found to be relevant and necessary. We are seeking proposals from anyone who has manufacturing experience, or an interest in developing such skills whether they are part of a well established manufacturers/businesses or an independent operator. Feel free to share this with any entity – large or small – who you think might be interested. We will provide a high degree of assistance throughout the construction process. This design document will serve as the basis for construction.

Please contact the CfG team with any questions.
