On June 25th a new pollinator garden was put in at the Mountain Lake PBS station in Plattsburgh. The installation was coordinated with family-friendly programming to complement STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) ecological stewardship content and the popular PBS Kids series “Nature Cat.” Children participated in the transplanting of pollinator friendly varieties into honeycomb beds and took great care to water the newly established plants.

Logan Brody, Education & Office Coordinator at Mountain Lake PBS, saw the collaboration with AdkAction as “the perfect way to bring our mission, vision and values to life: inspiring and enriching our community through education and public engagement; connecting with individuals through creative and innovative projects; and supporting efforts to help build a sustainable future for the place we all call home.”

Aside from the bees, butterflies, friendly neighborhood bunnies, and human visitors, Brody says the PBS staff will enjoy having the garden and has already self-organized to establish a plan for tending to it. The team is eager to get their hands dirty and ensure that it thrives this summer!

PBS is highlighting the garden’s installation in an upcoming segment on Mountain Lake Journal. The station hopes to add on more hexagonal beds in the future with the help of their fantastic supporters to make the garden a growing hallmark of their drive to entertain, engage, and educate the public through community-driven efforts. “1 Sesame Street has never looked so good!” says Brody.
