The People Behind the Packages

Thanks to the overwhelming support of our community, we have been able to deliver on our promise to provide over 35,000 meals to our neighbors in need during the COVID-19 crisis.  Since starting the effort together in March, AdkAction and the Hub on the Hill have purchased over $100,000 worth of fresh local food from 18 different local farms to create more than 2300 Emergency Food Packages; 35,500 meals.

We continue to be humbled by the generosity of our donors, volunteers, and partners – thank you so much for your involvement in this remarkable community project.  To date, your collective generosity has brought in more than $148,000 in donations to support this effort.

Here’s what the recipients are saying about the Emergency Food Packages:

“I’m a single mother who still hasn’t received unemployment so this was amazing! And I love the fact it’s great quality, so fresh and local! –Anonymous EFP Recipient

“We are barely getting by right now and we appreciate all the help you have been providing. thank you!” –Anonymous EFP Recipient

“I have an autoimmune disease and have been limited in where I can go to procure food during the COVID-19 outbreak. I also appreciate that this box contains local products from farmers I know in the region!” –Anonymous EFP Recipient

“We are a family of 5 ranging from 7 to 72 years old. All of us thought it was “present day” when we received the Emergency Food Package via the Tupper Lake Food Pantry. The quality, quantity, taste, packaging of food was perfect. We felt like we ordered from a #1 restaurant. Your generosity was most appreciated.”–Anonymous EFP Recipient

We surveyed our Emergency Food Package recipients and asked them the question, “How much of your total food has been from the Emergency Food Packages during weeks that you receive them?” 30% of respondents indicated that the food we are providing is “All” or “Most” of their total food.

The pandemic’s negative impacts on food insecurity aren’t going away anytime soon. Neither are we. Stay tuned for an exciting announcement in the coming days about what’s next for this project. We can’t wait to share the good news with you.
