Last year the monarch population increased from 2.48 hectares to 6.05, and it seems possible that the population is on track to increase once again. However, the timing of the migration northward is crucial as the monarchs begin to return through March, April and May. Temperatures along their migration paths are an important indicator for whether monarchs will flourish as they migrate, and survive in strong numbers, or potentially get caught in cold bursts. While it is still early, it seems likely that the monarch population will indeed prosper and return in greater numbers again.
