10 Reasons to Become an AdkAction Member

  1. AdkAction isn’t just a name – we take action to get things done! As a member, you can take pride in knowing that you are improving the Adirondacks for current and future generations.
  2. We’re responsive. When COVID-19 hit, we pivoted nearly overnight to create the Emergency Food Packages project. We leveraged our partnerships with local farmers, direct support organizations, and the Hub on the Hill to bring more than 35,500 meals to our Adirondack friends and neighbors in need, all while supporting local farmers.
  3. Our members affect real change. AdkAction members generate ideas, inspiration, passion, and financial support to make our projects possible. Our members are able to get involved at multiple levels. Whether showing support by paying dues, attending events and mixers, volunteering on our project committees, planting pollinator gardens, or delivering farm-fresh food to people in need, our members are at the heart of our work. We have engaged over 150 volunteers in the past 18 months.
  4. You can get involved in a project that you are passionate about. Our current projects include:
    • Fair Food Pricing – building sustainable food systems by helping Adirondack families buy fresh healthy products from local farmers
    • Broadband-for-All – working towards high-speed internet accessibility and affordability
    • The Farmacy – a model for bringing healthy local food to rural communities
    • Adirondack Pollinator Project – empowering people to take individual and collective action to ensure a future where pollinators thrive
    • Compost for Good – keeping valuable nutrients in our local soil and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through community-scale composting in the Adirondacks and beyond

  6. Not only do we really count on your donation – we make your donation count! You can trust that we’ll use your membership dollars carefully to make the most impact: 73% of our expenditures last year were spent directly on project costs, which is saying a lot for a small organization with only 2.25 full-time equivalent staff members.
  7. Meet new people. Our membership includes a wide array of individuals, each of whom brings their unique perspective to the table. As a member, you’ll be invited to our free membership mixer events, and our Annual Meeting, where you can meet others who share your passion for the Adirondacks.
  8. Something to agree on. In an increasingly polliticaly-divided world, we strive to keep our projects impact-driven and non-partisan so that we can focus on coming together to make progress for our region.
  9. AdkAction’s diverse portfolio of projects ensures that with just one membership donation, you are supporting multiple projects that are working for the betterment of the region you love.
