Plant Sale

AdkAction’s Adirondack Pollinator Project is delighted to offer its 5th Annual Pollinator-Friendly Native Plant Sale. Whether you plant a few plants or many, you will help rebuild the monarch butterfly population, attract hummingbirds, and strengthen native bee and moth populations.

This year we have carefully chosen 10 varieties of native flowering plants to benefit pollinators that live in the Adirondacks. We are growing the plants at the Uihlein Farm Greenhouse in Lake Placid, and you will be able to pick them up directly from the greenhouse! All plants will be ready to plant directly in your garden and are ready to thrive during their first season. Each plant has been carefully sourced or grown from seed to ensure that they have never come in contact with neonicotinoids (a class of insecticides that are harmful to pollinators).

*Please note: all plants available through this sale are grown naturally and are not treated with pesticides. As a result, they may have some insect damage, which is expected since these plants are safe for pollinators. Depending on growing conditions, we reserve the right to substitute similar plants or offer a refund at the time of pick-up to account for losses or other unforeseen issues. *

All proceeds will support the Adirondack Pollinator Project, a project of AdkAction in partnership with The Wild Center, and Paul Smith’s College.

Echinacea purpurea

The poster child for the native plant movement, Purple Coneflowers can now be found anywhere, from the home garden to prairie restoration to corporate plazas. Eminently endurable, resilient, and beautiful, purple coneflower blooms in late summer with purple-pink petals surrounding brilliant orange cones.

A pollinator and bird garden staple, purple coneflower grows 2-4’ in height and the flower head sits on a sturdy stem that can be single and upright or branched. A wonderful plant to naturalize in the garden or planted in mass for a powerful and colorful statement in August.

Coneflowers take a wide array of conditions from average dry soil to medium, well-drained soil in part shade to full sun. Plant flowers best in full sun.
