Plant Sale

AdkAction’s Adirondack Pollinator Project is delighted to offer its 5th Annual Pollinator-Friendly Native Plant Sale. Whether you plant a few plants or many, you will help rebuild the monarch butterfly population, attract hummingbirds, and strengthen native bee and moth populations.

This year we have carefully chosen 10 varieties of native flowering plants to benefit pollinators that live in the Adirondacks. We are growing the plants at the Uihlein Farm Greenhouse in Lake Placid, and you will be able to pick them up directly from the greenhouse! All plants will be ready to plant directly in your garden and are ready to thrive during their first season. Each plant has been carefully sourced or grown from seed to ensure that they have never come in contact with neonicotinoids (a class of insecticides that are harmful to pollinators).

*Please note: all plants available through this sale are grown naturally and are not treated with pesticides. As a result, they may have some insect damage, which is expected since these plants are safe for pollinators. Depending on growing conditions, we reserve the right to substitute similar plants or offer a refund at the time of pick-up to account for losses or other unforeseen issues. *

All proceeds will support the Adirondack Pollinator Project, a project of AdkAction in partnership with The Wild Center, and Paul Smith’s College.

Product Details

Pycnanthemum muticum

Mountain Mint is well-loved by insects and humans alike. Growing 2-3’ tall and spreading quickly, this broad-leaved MountainMint has lustrous foliage and silvery bracts with flowers ranging in color from white to pink to purple. The foliage is very aromatic with its spearmint scent present even in the dead of winter. Commonly found along a wood’s edge in the wild, it is an excellent choice for a naturalized border or woodland garden where sun transitions to shade. Mountain Mint blooms in late summer through to early fall and as the sun warms its flowers, the abundant nectar supply attracts pollinators from large to small, from sweat bees to flies to skippers to wasps.

A highly competitive workhorse for extreme sites and slopes, Mountain Mint does well in a variety of sites from full sun to shade and dry to moist conditions. A member of the mint family, the aromatic oils in the foliage make Pycnanthemum very deer and rabbit resistant.
