Cooking with CSA Farm Shares

In August, AdkAction hosted two cooking classes at the Keeseville Pharmacy to help participants learn techniques and tips for creating meals from local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm shares. During each class, Chef Curtiss Hemm of the Carriage House Cooking School shared tips and suggestions for meal planning and demonstrate selected recipes that maximize the flavor and nutritional value of the CSA shares.

Classes were open to the public via virtual viewing with a limited number of spaces for in-person participation. Priority for in-person spots were given to AdkAction’s Fair Food Pricing participants. Both in-person and online attendees were able to ask questions regarding meal planning, what to do with an unknown locally grown veggie, or other cooking-related questions for Chef Curtiss to answer in real-time.

Learn more about the Fair Food Pricing CSA program: AdkAction recently launched a no-cost CSA-share program from White Rainbow Farm in Peru, NY and Tangleroot Farm in Essex, NY for eligible households enrolled in our Fair Food Pricing program. Unfamiliar vegetables found in CSA shares can present cooking challenges, so we reached out to Chef Curtiss to host this series of CSA-share based cooking courses, including tips for meal planning.  The classes help participants make the most of their vegetables while learning simple healthy recipes.
