Fair Share Program Served 100 Families this Growing Season

This summer, AdkAction launched the second year of our Fair Share program, a component of our food security project that funds participation in local farm CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares for qualified area residents. Each week, participants in the Fair Share program receive a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables from our three farm partners–Juniper Hill, Tangleroot, and North Point Community Farm, who we are proud to support in their first year of operation.

The program has expanded greatly, from 23 participating households in 2021 to over 100 households this summer, thanks to the generosity of over 80 individuals whose donations covered the cost of the shares. This season has been a huge success for both our community members who received fresh food, and for our farm partners who received upfront payment for the subscriptions in the spring, when it is needed most, to grow and provide high quality produce.

Participating families across the Adirondacks are enjoying a variety of nutritious fresh produce each week and the feedback has been resoundingly positive:

“[Fair Share] gave me a chance to try some new local foods and helped me get my health back… thank you.”

“I was able to cook meals with fresh vegetables, and I liked knowing how good and healthy this is for my family. We are so thankful for making us part of this program. It has been a great help and blessing for us.”

As this year’s Fair Share subscription draws to a close, program participants from all three farms were invited to a season-culminating Harvest Party at Tangleroot Farm. Together with AdkAction staff, Tangleroot farmers and other CSA members, Fair Share participants enjoyed a tour of the farm and a potluck dinner highlighting the bounty of the season.
