Keeseville Community Arts Festival Impact

AdkAction’s Keeseville Community Arts Festival brings color, connection, and creativity to the heart of our small Adirondack town. This year’s event once again filled the historic Stone Mill and surrounding streets with art, music, and joy — and thanks to a post-festival survey, we now have a better picture of just how deeply the festival resonates with those who attend.

A Celebration of Local Identity

When asked whether the festival reflects Keeseville’s identity, 65% of survey respondents said yes, with another 24% answering “somewhat.” Their reasons paint a powerful picture: “Each work of art displays our identity,” wrote one attendee. Another noted that the festival “highlights its assets” and “depicts the beauty of the area.” For newer residents, the event helped build a stronger sense of place. “The art at the festival made me feel so much more connected to my community,” shared one respondent.

Some reflected on how Keeseville is still evolving — a community balancing its rich history with a growing appreciation for the arts. The festival offers a vision of what Keeseville can be, sparking pride and possibility. One attendee said it best: “This is a very positive impact on the great direction [Keeseville] continues to head.”

Creative Placemaking in Action

The Keeseville Community Arts Festival is more than a weekend celebration — it’s part of AdkAction’s broader effort to use creative placemaking as a tool for rural revitalization. By turning public spaces into platforms for cultural expression, the festival invites residents and visitors alike to engage with Keeseville’s identity in meaningful ways. It’s not just about appreciating art — it’s about strengthening community bonds and reimagining the future of small-town life.

What People Loved Most

When we asked attendees what they enjoyed most about the festival, common themes emerged: the art, the people, and the sense of community. Many were awed by the beauty and talent on display at the Stone Mill, with one person writing, “Looking at all the paintings in the beautiful Stone Mill, in awe of the fact that all that talent was created in just a few days.” Others celebrated the interactive and family-friendly nature of the event, from plein air painting to kid-focused activities like tie-dye. “Everything! It was awesome!” said one attendee. Another shared, “Seeing everyone come together” and “all the people enjoying the activities” made the event truly special.

A Festival for Everyone

We also asked who benefits most from the festival — and why. The overwhelming message? Everyone wins. “It’s a win-win-win-win for all: exposure for businesses and artists, pride for locals, and another reason to visit here for seasonal folks,” wrote one respondent. Attendees highlighted how the event boosts local businesses, provides opportunities for artists, and fosters pride and connection among residents. Several noted how important these types of events are in small towns: “We look forward to the handful of events we have in the community… It’s really important.”

What People Want More Of

Looking ahead, survey participants were eager for more: more youth programs, more art classes, more live music, and more opportunities for the community to connect. Many expressed interest in future involvement, with nearly half of respondents saying they’d like to volunteer or help plan future festivals.

The Bottom Line

The Keeseville Community Arts Festival isn’t just about art — it’s about identity, belonging, and revitalization. As part of AdkAction’s creative placemaking work, the festival brings neighbors together, supports local creators, and shines a light on the charm and potential of our village. As one attendee put it, “It provides an opportunity for community to come together and celebrate Keeseville.”

Thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s event — and to all who shared your thoughts through the survey. Your voices are helping shape the future of this festival and ensure it continues to grow as a reflection of all that makes Keeseville special.
