Problem Discovery

Understanding What Matters Most

All of AdkAction’s work begins with listening.

Before launching a new initiative, we work to better understand the challenges facing Adirondack communities by engaging residents, partners, practitioners, members, and those directly experiencing the issue. Through conversations, research, community input, and data review, we identify problems that are real, shared, and suited to collaborative action.

This phase of our work helps ensure that AdkAction focuses its energy where it can make the greatest impact.

Problem discovery may include:

  • Community conversations and listening sessions
  • Meetings with local leaders, practitioners, and partner organizations
  • Research and data collection
  • Outreach to impacted community members and users
  • Opportunities for residents to submit project ideas and emerging needs
  • Input from AdkAction members, advisors, and volunteers

We believe that meaningful solutions begin with a strong understanding of the problem itself. By listening first, we can better identify opportunities for practical, community-driven action.

Areas We Are Currently Exploring

AdkAction is currently actively learning more about several challenges affecting Adirondack communities through conversations with partners, practitioners, and users:

Public Transportation

Childcare Access and Assistance

Recycling and Waste Management

Hunger and Poverty

Universal Basic Income

These conversations do not necessarily indicate future AdkAction projects, but rather reflect areas where we are gathering information, building relationships, and exploring where collaborative action may be needed.
