Day of Action Schedule

8:00 – 8:45 AM – Volunteer Check-In and distribution of t-shirts. Coffee and doughnuts.

8:45 AM – Kick-Off Ceremony and Group Photo

8:45 – 9:00 AM – Teams carpool or walk to project sites around Tupper Lake

9:00 – 11:30 AM – Teams work on projects.

11:30 AM – 1:30 PM – Celebratory Picnic Lunch at Flanders Park: a chance to connect, reflect on what we accomplished together, and celebrate 15 years of showing up for Adirondack communities.

Project Preview

Community Cleanup
Grab a bag and gloves and help clear litter from public sites around Tupper Lake. A simple, satisfying project that makes an immediate visual difference in our community.

Bingo, Music, and Cheer for Seniors
Head to the nursing home to spend the morning with residents. Play bingo, sing along to music, and bring some energy and company to folks who’d love the visit.

Public Art Project
Work in the Tupper Arts basement painting artwork that will later be installed at Maddox Hall. A great fit for anyone who wants to leave something creative and lasting behind.

Library Community Room Refresh
Clean and prep the room for an upcoming mural, spruce up the storytime corner, and assemble furniture and flooring for a new exercise class area. A mix of light lifting, organizing, and finishing touches.

Cards of Care for Community Helpers
Set up at the AdkAction tent in Flanders Park for the morning and help write and craft notes of appreciation for workers at the nursing home, school, and local childcare providers. A relaxed, low-effort project, perfect for volunteers who want to sit, chat, and create.

Family Matters Help
Move toys to shampoo carpets, and help kick off a diaper drive. Direct, practical support for families who lean on this local family resource center every day.

Stock the Food Pantry
Shop a provided list at a nearby grocery store, deliver the goods to the pantry, then help organize and prep everything for distribution.

Staff the Free Farmers Market Table
Staff the table outside the HGA building and help distribute fresh vegetables to food pantry clients. A friendly, people-facing project for anyone who enjoys talking with neighbors and handing out something good.

Maddox Hall Exterior
Scrape peeling paint and repaint the exterior, refinish the accessible ramp used by the Adult Center, and weed the grounds. Physical work with a clear before-and-after for a building the community relies on.

When you sign up, you will:

Receive event updates as plans and projects are finalized
Get a project preference form ahead of the event
Join a team working together toward a shared goal

Who can participate:
Individuals, families, businesses, and community groups are all welcome. No special skills are required. Just a willingness to pitch in.

What to expect:

A half-day of guided, hands-on work
Clearly organized project teams and site leaders
Tools and materials provided
Lunch and time to connect with fellow volunteers

While this first Day of Action takes place in Tupper Lake, AdkAction’s work is rooted in partnerships across communities throughout the Adirondacks. We approach each place with care, curiosity, and a commitment to listening first, then working together to take meaningful action.

As we celebrate 15 years of AdkAction, this day reflects what has always been at the heart of our work: showing up, building relationships, and turning ideas into action alongside the communities we serve.

And who knows? This may be the first Day of Action of many.
