Issues related to tax reform were ranked tops by our members, with uniform agreement that the following sub-categories were the top priority issues.
-
Fair and consistent property assessments for all residents, both local and seasonal
-
Elimination of State-imposed and unfunded mandates
-
Property tax reform, including seeking alternative means to funding education and caps on property tax increases until a property is sold
-
State tax-equivalent support for State land, equal to private taxation levies
For 2008/2009, the AdkAction.org Steering Committee decided to focus on the State's reimbursement for its lands in the forest preserve, an important subset of this topic as many towns are characterized by a majority of their lands being owned by the State. The result was the conference sponsored by AdkAction.org on August 22nd, 2008 which was attended by over 120 town supervisors, assessors, county real property officials, advocacy groups, and AdkAction.org members.
The results of this conference will lead to cooperation with other advocacy groups who have also made tax reform their top priority.
This website will serve as a repository for the results of the conference and as a means for all interested people to communicate with one another.
